383 ?'s

I am talking with a local speed shop about building a 383 for me. They are sugesting SRP flat top forged pistons, Scat 5.7 forged I beam rods, Scat cast crank, all machine work and assembly of the short block for $1983. Just wondering if this sounds like a decent price.

exactly what I was thinking did sound a bit cheap for the actual assembly.

Should be able to do the parts mentioned, machine work and assembly for that. I paid $2300 for the that and I got forged eagle crank and h-beam rods.

I was being sarcastic....magnumv8 said in his post that he had everything including the machining done for that price.

Apparently sarcasm doesn't translate well over the net.

I am paying $500.00 for machine work and $400.00 for assembly of the short block. (I got lucky on a new stroker kit from a board member. Scat forged crank, Scat forged h-beams and JE's for $1000.00)

The $1983 includes the parts mentioned, machine work, gaskets, bolts, etc., and assembly.

I will most likely upgrade to a steel crank which will add some to the price.

They said they would assemble the rest of the engine (intake, heads, rockers, etc) for $130 more. I didnt think that was too bad. That way when I pick up the engine it will basically be ready to put in the car.

That could be dead on for the whole sheebang, I just did an Eagle 383 LT1 and it was only 800$ with me assembling , but I got my parts used, it would have been about 1000$ more with new parts.

Sounds about right.

I did SRP pistons, 6.0" Eagle H-rods, and a Scat crank.
