Sounds like your ignition switch took a turn for the worst, it's only like a $27 from the dealer, but a PITA to change.

checked the battery today and the volt meter said it has 12 volts solid ...but the gauge on the dash says below eight which 8 is the lowest it goes...why wont it start would the ignition switch make the gauge stay below 8 when the rest of the gauges read right ...it wont turn over or nothing ....

I'd double check all of your ground wires and make sure there connected and clean. I had a similar problem to yours and it turned out to be the ground on the motor mount was off.

....happened on the way home from church? Maybe you didn't put enough in the collection box.

Sounds like a bad battery and/or connections. You can have a bad battery and still have lights, but not enough juice to start the engine. This is often caused by bad terminal connections, so check the battery terminals and the cables thems selves. If your battery is even close to being out of warranty, it is probably time for a new one. JMHO
