Comfortable RPM for a 383
Comfortable RPM for a 383
I would like to know what is the comfortable rpm for a 383 with 5.7" rods (forged eagle) and a XE 224/236 114 cam...
this is a blower car...
I wanted to know if the engine was comfortable at 6500 rpm... I think the cam is still in its sweet spot and I could use the additional rpm to my advantage... But I know htat with 5.7" rods puts a lot of stress on the cylinder walls and will add a lot of wear... I would love to have this engine for 100k miles if possible.. but yet want to race it... Let me know
Thanks

That is the cam my cousin has in his LT4 383. He has 6" rods. The heads are stock LT4 with a valve job, no porting, no blower, full bolt ons. He made ~370 rwhp at 6100. The dyno pull stopped short there, but i can tell you it definitly keeps screamin after that. when i drive it i shift at 6400, don't tell him that though! It should have been pulled out a little furthur to get a better sense for the dropoff off the HP curve, heck it might have still climbed a hair by my butt-o-metter. It certainly doesn't drop off like my LT1. The guy who built the motor and the car did the dyno pull. Sorry, he doesn't have the graph scanned in.
