I'm not saying that the velocity of the air is cooling anything down. In fact I never said that. I know that the car is moving and not the air. What I AM saying is that the outside air is colder than the stale air inside the fender wall if there is no scoop. I think I worded it terribly but I'm not saying the faster you go the colder the air will be thats getting drawn in. Thats not what I meant at all.

All I'm saying is if it's say 10 degrees C inside the fender wall and it's 0 degrees C outside. You can be doing 10MPH or 100MPH but the filter will still draw in the 10 degree air if there is no scoop to pick up the colder outside air which is 10 degrees colder.

Do you guys see what I mean? Sorry if my other posts sounded like bs... thats all I'm saying though.

Yeah i understood what you were trying to say even though you did word it kind of wrong. That is what i was trying to tell them. You just didn't say it right. But i think you understand the concept.

that's why it's called, Cold Air Intake (CAI)

scoop just makes it better cuz more is coming directly from outside instead of snaking around the cracks and crevices of the headlight and stuff

i wrapped my K&N black orca in Thermo-Tec reflective heatshielding, adhesive on one side. Now it's the tinfoil orca!

another one i just did: used a single zip tie to lift my fuel lines off the engine by zipping to the strut tower brace (STB)

now it's hovering like

You obviously understand nothing about physics. Yes, if you are driving and you are pulling in air from the outside of the engine bay, regardless of the speed you are going, the air entering the air filter by the air scoop will be the ambient temperature of the air. So if it is 30C out, the air temp going into the engine will be 30C. If it's 20C, it's 20C. And so on. Moving air does not cool it down. In all reality, moving air actually causes it to HEAT up, due to the molecules hitting each other. However, at the relatively slow speeds that earth-bound vehicles moves, this effect is not even measurable. You'd need something moving at speeds greater than sound (such as an asteroid or the space shuttle entering the atmosphere) to produce this effect. It's commonly called drag friction or drag effect.

Now for your idea of holding your hand out the window and feeling it that it is colder, try this. Put a thermometer in front of a blowing fan in a closed room. Leave it there for however long you want (10 minutes, and hour, whatever). Go back and check the thermometer. It will read the same temperature. Why? When you put your hand in front of the fan, you can feel the cool air? Simple. Regardless of hot or cold, your body is emitting moisture. When you blow air across a surface with moisture, some of the moisture will evaporate, taking heat with it. A fan blowing air across your skin or you sticking your hand out the window of a car results in alot more moisture evaporating and taking heat away than if your skin is just sitting with little or no air flow moving across it. It feels cold to you, because your skin is losing heat. This is the same reason why we sweat when it is hot out. Evaporation steals more energy than almost any other cooling system. It's all about the wonderful world of physics!
Lol, your post is almost identical to mine

I'm an engineer. Are you too? Us engineers always have to take the wording literally. Sorry if I didn't understand what was meant, 1996 | Z28 SS, but I've seen and heard a lot of people who actually believe that moving air cools it down. "It feels colder" is usually the reason I get. I'm still amazed at how many people don't understand very basic physics, but I'm glad that you do.
