Cold Air Intake Question

hi guys, Im about buy a cold air intake for my 94 lt1. Im looking at the k&n kit which is around 200 $ and some generic brand . The k&n kit is black plastic and the other brand is all chrome with k&n cone filter in the end, and its also half the price. Some people tell me that k&n is pretty much a rip-off and there is no need to spend 200 on a cai, also i hear that metal tube keeps the air cool and its better than k&n's plastic anyway.
What do you guys think? what kind of cai's do you guys use? are there any other brands that are better? ill appreciate any replies. Thanks

It probably won't fit right, typically that's the problem with the generic Ebay stuff. Post a link to it and see if anyone else has bought it, and get their thoughts on it.

Re: Cold Air Intake Question

I have the ebay one, it fits fine, the only thing is that where is goes over the abs module it sticks up a little, and I get some black spots on the stop of the tube from the material on the hood which rubs off on it. Other then thats, its just a friggen pipe come on why pay $200.

Re: Cold Air Intake Question

I have the K&N FIPK for my 94. I had a noticable gain in power and throttle reponse. pretty easy to install too. K&N or Moroso are both pretty good. I always heard not to get the Metal tubes because they heat up more and what would be the point of having a Cold Air intake if its just going to heat up the air? I understand that the plastic heats up too but it also dissapates the heat faster. JMO

Re: Cold Air Intake Question

You could look for a used one in the classifieds if you had time. I thought that the metal tubes actually became heat soaked and made the intake temp rise?

I've never actually felt it being that hot after I've run the car......I was expecting that, but it stays surprisingly cool.

Re: Cold Air Intake Question

I have a K&N cold air tube i'll sell you cheap. Then all you'll have to do is buy the air filter which is about $45. It's in great condition and the only reason I'm not using it is because I'm running a supercharger. Send me a pm if intrested.

Probably wasn't a good idea to be that hard on the car right after a new rear end and new gears.....but then again, who cares, right?

Re: Cold Air Intake Question

I have SLP, and has not been hot to the touch. It sometimes feels cold actually. Personally, get what you want, and what you think works.

Re: Cold Air Intake Question

I got the Lingenfelter. It has the biggest filter I've seen out of all of them, it's HUGE. It only cost me ~$160 back in the day. Easily the best deal in my opinion.
