Code scanner
Code scanner
Will it be ok if buy one of the cheap generic gm code scanners of ebay. I found one thats really cheap, i just need somethign to give me basic codes or maybe somethign to help out with my abs light. Im not trying to spend a lot of money on it, but it would be nice to have one. Are they still descent?
Thanks,

Since you have a 1996, you need an OBD-II scanner. Can't tell you if a particular one will be ok without some info on it. Normally only dealer or high dollar scanners will tell you any ABS codes.
Scanners that will pull ABS codes are very expensive, as Shoe said. Check the third brakelight to see if it is working. If you've rerouted plug wires, you might move them away from any abs brake components.
its near impossible to diagnose the ABS system without pulling the codes out. Could be a number of things wrong like wheel speed sensors, ABS motors, solenoids........etc.
take it to the dealer and ask them to just pull the codes out. if its something like a speed sensor, you could prolly do it yourself.
