code 36?

Ok,here is some pertinent info.I took my car to our local track and got my best e.t/mph and 60ft.All the runs ex. one had kr and yet i had the ks desentized, installed the lt4 km and had the injectors professionally cleaned(2 cans)and ran 94 octane yet i still had kr.I didn,t get the code when at track but later i filled up w/fuel and went to accelerate i felt a bog and noticed a check engine light and noted code 36 on my scanmaster.I then drove about 25 miles on the highway, stopped for 15 mins and when accelerated up to speed i felt the bog again(low rpm).I checked code 36 and it said Optispark hi.resolution signal faulty. My ? is it the opti/ cap and rotor/ coil. Also my o2 readings were around 855-882 and yet i,m getting kr,which leads me to believe it is false knock, any opinions would be a big help so i don,t replace things randomly.

The PCM cannot detect cap and rotor problems, unless it is in the form of misfires on a 96 or 97 that has misfire detection.

36 is an opti signal issue. Check your opti electrical harness for corrosion and tightness. Clear the code. Test again and see if it returns.

The high res pulse is generated by the rotating wheel and optical module. It is used to fine tune the spark and injector timing, reducing spark scatter. If the signals are "off", it might be throwing the timing off enough to cause knock. When the PCM sets DTC 36, it ignores the high resolution pulse signal, and relies only on the low resolution signal, which does no more than confirm the cam position is following the sequence of cylinder firing. In between the low res pulse, the PCM has to interpolate the cam position to set injector and spark timing.

Code 36 update

Yesterday i checked the water pump to see if it was leaking and it looked ok,but did notice that the crank seal/main seal has oil near them and am thinking this might have got into the opti!.This is similiar to the 94 Formula car in GM high tech, and seeing that i can,t do better than 2.03 60ft. i probably have a low end bog,but it isn,t as noticeable b/c i have 3.23 gears and they had 2.73.I will get the car on a lift this weekend and try to see what going on.Thanks for the replies and will keep you guys updated.
