On your avarage LT1 the stock steel driveshaft can become unbalanced over time. A couple options to remedy the problem are getting an LS1 driveshaft or a 1LE driveshaft. Both are made of aluminum and seem to work well with stock applications. Our steel driveshaft is probably stronger though.....

Another option is a carbon fiber peice but they're around $800.

A search will provide alot of info.

The best option is either try to get it balanced or get a brand new 1le(since it is stronger then the ls1) or get a used ls1 DS. I'm in the exact same situation you are right now. I'm trying to find a used ls1 ds right now. Whatever you do don't get the carbon fiber ds. Carbon fiber Ds's are good but not the ones you get for around 700-800 bucks. THe good ones are around 1500. So you would be better off getting the aluminum 1le.

Buy a used 1le, thats what I'm gonna do, I have the same issues as you do. the 1le is stronger then the ls1 shaft. and cheaper
