Clutch Question

What makes the clutch "springy". what makes the pedal come back up after you release it? Throwout bearing? Master/slave?

Nope. The force originates in the clutch diaphragm spring. When you let off the pedal, it pushes everything back-via hydraulics from the slave cylinder back.

is it possible to break these hydraulics? ever since the clutch 'club' security device pulled the pedal back too far it just feels like mush now.

You might have ruined your master cylinder by pulling it back further than it is supposed to go.

If your fluid was low, you could have sucked air in the system, that would make it springy. If this is the case, add more fluid and bleed the system.
