Clutch Problems that WILL not go away!!
Clutch Problems that WILL not go away!!
Hey everyone, I'm at the ropes end with this clutch. I was out driving the car one day pretty hard when I heard a pop, then a bunch of smoke rolled out from under the car. I was able to drive it home, but everytime i push on the clutch, i heard a bunch of grinding. My friend Mike "94m5" tore it down to find the disk totally gone, and the flywheel pretty gouged up.
I had the flywheel turned down, bought a new clutch kit, new fork, and slave cylinder. We just got everything put together, and we STILL have the grinding with the clutch depressed. I know that the grinding is being caused by the Fork hitting the Pressure Plate. My question is, what would have caused this to happen, and HOW do I fix it? I figured buying all new clutch parts would have taken care of it. But it's doing the same thing. I'm gonna go take a nap, Ill check back in . Thanks for all your help.
John.
P.s., does anyone have a diagram of how the fork, is supposed to sit on the release bearing? I'm pretty sure that it slips between the two flanges on the bearing. Also, for the sake of mentioning it. when fully assembled cept for the slave, the fork rests FLUSH with the bell housing. Is this correct?

Not to panic you with possible bad news. But did you try spinning the input shaft to the trans? I had something like that happen half a life time ago and it was the front bearing in the trans, which also ate up the bushing in the crank. If you pull it out you may give both of those a quick check. My bearing failure was from my dumb a** not filling the trans fully with lube when i put it in.
