Clutch Problem
Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem I have had and am still having. I had the clutch kit (standard equipment...nothing special) changed in my car at 80K miles almost a year and a half ago. I took it back to the mechanic who did the work 3 times because something is just NOT right with it. He said he could hear what I was talking about (how can you not hear it...it's REALLY annoying) what had no clue what it was or how to go about fixing the problem. There is a constant squeaking noise when the clutch is not engaged. It stops only
after you put the car in gear and engage the clutch. No one I have talked to knows what the problem is or what to do about it. I am hoping there is something I can do temporarily to fix the problem. I will probably be replacing/upgrading everything again soon enough (synchro's are going bad in the transmission), but curious as to whether anyone else has had this problem or knows what it could possibly be. Throw-out Bearing? Not 100% sure if the newer Camaro's have a throw-out bearing, but back in the day, if you was hearing a squeaking noise while the clutch is disengaged (clutch pedal pushed down), the throw-out bearing is either locked up or in despriate need of some grease. Could also be the springs on your pressure plate have came loose and/or rubbing against the flywheel.
Too bad they never put grease fittings on automobiles....all the rigs I work on daily have a nice fitting sticking out the inspection plate.

Could also be a pilot bearing/bushing problem. When the clutch is disengaged, the trans input shaft stops rotating (assuming the car is stationary) but the crankshaft is still rotating so any friction in the pilot area may be heard.
Several board members have mentioned failed pilot bearings. May be they can describe the symtoms/noise (if any).

I've been told that if it was the throw-out bearing, it would be more of a squeal instead of a squeak?? I don't know how to describe the noise any better than a squeak.
It almost sounds like when you walk across a hardwood floor and you can hear it crack. I don't believe anything in there is broken.

I get that noise every now and again. It got to the point where it pissed me off so much i took it to the shop. they said they would have to take the trans apart to find the source. Screw that, So i let one of my freinds that works on tranmissions at a mustang rustoration shop close to where i live drive the car. He asked if i changed the clutch, i'm not sure, but i think it was changed before i got the car. After he took it for a ride he said not to even worry about it. I thought it was the throwout bearing, but apparently not. My noise usually isnt loud and obnoxious. But i hope you find the problem.
I don't believe it is RPM related...it doesn't speed up or slow down. It hasn't gotten any worse and the car doesn't drive any different. It is just more irritating that anything else. I am also worried that it may be causing some kind of damage in there that I won't know about until it all comes apart again.
I'd put money on it being the throwout bearing. Its fairly common for them to be loud in Camaros. I've heard of people replacing the throwout bearing 2 or 3 times just to get one that is quiet. Not worth in IMHO. Especially since a throwout bearing for these cars are almost $100 freakin dollars!
the first on i had was real loud after the clutch install, i got it changed and now the second one has a noise but its not nearly as bad. I have heard of this noise fadding out over time. Whats the deal, they can send people to space but cant get a throwout bearing thats new, not to make a noise.
