Clutch Noise - Help

I had my motor rebuilt a while ago and when I got my car back there was a loud rattle coming from my transmission when my clutch pedal wasn't depressed. If it was the noise would stop.

I took it to a shop where he said it was the throwout bearing which made sense. He replaced that and within a week the rattle was just as loud as it was before hand.

When I took it back for him to look at I was told I needed to have my tranny rebuilt. Supposedly there was play in the main shaft. Once I got the money I had my tranny rebuilt.

When I finally get my car back after the tranny was finished it still made the same noise. I was then told that it was "normal" and was going to do no matter what, of course this is already around $1800 later. I was told everything is tight and the clutch should perform normal, it will just sound like crap.

What could be causing this noise? I would really like a solution to my car sounding like it's falling apart when I don't have my clutch in. The clutch seems to hold well although I really have demanded to much from it as I haven't had a chance to get out of the city.

My setup is a LT4 PP and an LT1 disc which was installed when my motor was put back in.

So are you saying the LT4PPs all sound this crappy? I have heard many LT1's and have never heard one that sounds like mine does.

This is a very violent sounding rattle and is pretty loud.

without really being able to hear the sound, its hard to tell. I have a Spec stage 3 clutch (carbon) and when the clutch is ingage at idle, it is pretty noisey with the chattering. But you say it is a violent noise, it may not be lined up correctly.

I noticed it also rattles around when it's in gear. It's the loudest when you are at low rpms and are at constant throttle postion. Or that it's just easier to hear under those conditions.

If it's really loud, it could be the pilot bearing/bushing.

I agree, man I would hate to have to replace that! I just dropped my transmission twice in about a 6 month time span, that sucks doing that crap on your back!
