Question Clutch Life

What is the average clutch life of a T56 6 speed in a F-body. Just curious because I'm thinking about selling my car and getting one with a 6 speed: Firebird Formula, Trans Am, or Z28!

They can last a long time or a short time, its really up to the driver. If you do a lot of clutch dumps and put on drag radials then it can wear it down. So far, my stock clutch has held up very well, it has 85k on it.

Edit: with no sign of going out

Yeah like jason said it all depends on the driver. In addition to clutch dumps and stuff like that. Rideing the clutch to much will eat away at your clutch pretty fast. So just let it engage. Get the 6 speed you won't be disapointed you did.

Mine went to 75k only cuz of the Dreaded Intake Leak though, I figure about 85k avg for the normal cz28.com driver

Mine has about 74k on it, and its showing some signs of aging, it doesn't engage till pretty far out on the pedal...but it still sticks like a champ.

106,XXX miles on original clutch...

I'm wondering though...is it better to coast with the tranny in gear and clutch engaged, hold clutch down, or just put it in neutral and don't touch the clutch?

I put it in neutral and let it coast and use the brakes instead of downshifting to come to a stop. i would rather put brakes on my car then put a clutch in. ITs your car, drive the way you want to.

oh and when your at a stoplight keep it in neutral, then when the light turns green put it in gear. that what i do, saves the clutch i think.

The neutral at the stoplight thing would help preserve the throw-out bearing.

155,000 still on the original clutch. But I don't drive it very hard and only been to the track once. I am finally getting a new one because the throwout bearing rattles so hard when I engage first it feels like the thing is going to explode. I can feel it bigtime in the pedal...

of course now that i have said how old it is it will probably go out...did that with the opti...lasted 106,000 miles then i mentioned how long it was and it went out two days later...I really hope the clutch is still good...I don't really do any dumping on it, and don't ride it, and hav only been to the track once...

I replaced my clutch as soon as I purchased my car 3 years ago. It only had 48xxx miles on it. The previous owner pulled a small trailer with Seadoo on it. Didnt make much sense to me using a Z-28 with 6 speed to pull anything, but anyways the throw out bearing was shot and the clutch plate was literally shot.
