Clutch Install Question???
Clutch Install Question???
I'm installing a new clutch in my t56 and the book says to drain the transmission fluid. Is this true???
Also my clutch cylinder is leaking fluid, is there a repair kit for this or do I have to purchase a new one?
Thanx in advance

this will proly get moved but... you don't have to drain the fluid as long ad you keep the driveshaft in the transmission, do you mean the slave cylinder( on the trany) is leaking? Then you would have to buy a new unit.
Go ahead and just quickly drain the fluid. It is not hard to drain it, nor is it hard to re-fill it... by any means.
When you are messing around with your transmission during the install, you will be glad that you did it. Initially, when I was doing my SPEC Stage 3 install, I didn't. If the trans tilts back even a little, fluid will begin to pour everywhere... trust me.
Plus, your transmission could benefit from some brand new fluid after all of these years anyways.
Some say to just leave the driveshaft's input shaft in the rear of the trans... I think it is necessary to remove it.
Just my honest opinion.

im not trying to steal this thread, but i will be changing my clutch in a couple of weeks, how is the easiest way to drain the tranny fluid? in an auto (the only thing i have owned until this car) you would just drop the pan. im not sure how to do it on an m6 though
there is a plug marked "drain" on the pass side of the trany i think, or you could just pull the tail shaft out. I guess its a good idea to change the fluid while your there, i didn't because i changed it a month before i did the clutch.
