clutch/396 cam selection...help?

Well, it has been a long time since I got the 396 together, and now I am beginning to question my cam selection. Does anybody have any input as to what a good selection would be? Right now I have a 236/246 comp cams XE grind.

Looking for streetability(primary) along with a hearty lope(secondary)...

Also, I am about to pick up a new clutch, what are the good options, and what should I stay away from?

Any practical input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Charlie

I suggest contacting Lloyd Elliott. First because most people have never built a 396 and are hardly qualified to offer camshaft suggestions. Second because he knows what he is talking about. Although I will say I would prefer a larger camshaft for your motor since that size would be medium sized in a 383.

Defnately talk to Lloyd and he will get you something that runs well and still streetable. The cam I would reccomend for off the shelf, reliable, likes n2o, CC306 in that 396 would make some real good torque, which is what moves you. Then spray 125-150HP n2o on that setup, low 10's no sweat. It's all about what you are looking for so do some research and talk to people who have similar setups to see what they did, what works and what doesn't. Later Clint
