it does take tons of grinding. cmotorsports siad"just a little across the top" yeah f'n right. the crank gear bottoms out, so it will pos. stop when its all the way on. the noise will change when your hitting it on. it'll get very solid sounding whenit bottoms out. I did have to grind/sand all the way around the chain.

Re: Cloyes timing chain install help PLEASE!!

Well after tons of grinding and testing, grinding and testing, etc., etc. I went to the hardware store and got a piece of 1 1/2 in by 5 in water pipe and found out the crank gear was not all the way flush with the crank. Now my timing chain cover fits with PLENTY of play room, and the chain is not so tight.

By the way, how tight were your chains? Mine you can move very slightly. Seems good to me...???

Now I need to see if I can seal the oil pan to timing cover with a lot of RTV. (I tore mine, stuck to botton of cover when I pulled it off.) Any words of wisdom before I attempt this?

Thanks,
Z

If i push on my chain between the sprockets, it will move one way a tiny bit. Maybe 1/4 of an inch. It's pretty tight

its alot tighter then stock. I did that when I did the cam install. it did seal back up for me. you need some good rtv, but you also need to clean the seal real good w/brake parts cleaner first. then make sure it has time to dry before you start it up. after you install the cover, go back w/a dab of sealer on your fingertip and smooth it over the rip in the seal. worked for me (for the 300 mi.s I had it running w/the new cam before my rod bearing went out)
