Cloyes cam sprocket rubbing on the cam retaining plate?

Last spring I swapped in a new cam, cloyes double roller timing chain, 1.6 roller rockers and new comp r lifters. Shortly after the install I started to hear a "rubbing" noise at the front of the motor. It seemed to be coming from the optispark, timing cover area, which made me think that I may not have clearanced the front cover enough... Additionally a search of this site at that time yielded a post with a similar problem (and almost the exact same rubbing noise):

Well I finally found time to take things apart this weekend and found evidence that the aft side of the cam sprocket was rubbing against the cam retaining plate. Before and after pics of the retaining plate are located at:

Cam Retainer Plate Rub

These marks are new, since the install and did not appear on the retainer plate or the sprocket beforehand. Was wondering if anyone else ran into problem like this. I'm thinking its just a tolerancing issue between the retaining plate, aftermarket cam and aftermarket timing chain and sprocket. If so I'm guessing I could either machine or sand the plate down a bit and reinstall?

Any thought or comments are welcome..
