Within 30 seconds or so. Enough time to get out and unhook a wire and then crank it again.

i wish i had my cable with me... it probably would not hurt to scan your car during the start/run/die

So I completely understand you here. Immediately after it dies you get out and find there is spark making its way to the plugs?

You would really benefit from a data log so you can see if the computer is adding/pulling fuel or exactly what is going on the moment it dies.

Yes.

Yeah, I know! I HAVE noticed though, if I'm not driving it.....just let it set and idle....the rpms will go up 200-300 rpms before it starts its little "attitude". It doesn't die right away, but if you BARELY move the throttle blades, it will stumble down.

I also can't believe it isn't throwing a code with the O2's unhooked!

Re: Closed loop....then dies!!!

Try replacing the O2 sensors then. They are pretty cheap in the nonheated version like what you need.

Generally speaking if the motor stalls out like what you are describing.. the problem is fuel. If you increase throttle and the motor dies then you can see how its getting more air but without the fuel it will just blow out.

Yeah, that's why I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge. When it messed up, there was NO change in pressure.

Now it has been idling for an hour and hasn't died on it's own yet!! UNLESS I touch the throttle!

Re: Closed loop....then dies!!!

Just ran perfect for TWO hours and then it started messing up!

I'm gonna get a wire and stick it inside the coil wire so I can watch it spark and see if it quits sparking the instant that it dies.

what bout your map sensor? TPS sensor? IAC sensor? any of those going bad could cause that to happen.

Ok, that won't work on the coil....no spark gets to the opti!

But I did manage to put it on a plug wire and saw that the spark is indeed going out when the car dies!

Can I use a noid light to check it going to the opti while it's running, or will that draw too much current away?

Got to be a sensor bad somewhere some how.. if you can get the car to me somehow i'll go threw it on the scan tool and help you find what it is.

I just don't understand why it took TWO HOURS to make it (whatever it was) fail??

Re: Closed loop....then dies!!!

I guess i should not have bragged on the ole opti we'll probably be buying at the same time lol. I try to think why the opti would go bad only after 266,000 miles... I cant think of any reasons lol...
