Clogged vaccum line...What is this for?

Is this the vaccum line that sucks fuel vapors out of the tank?

This line was totally clogged with black carbon marbles, this has to be the reason I was always getting excess pressure buildup in the gas tank.

During the summer if you removed the gas cap I would get a huge gush of compressed air coming out. Also after parking the car you could here this weezing sound coming from the gas cap and once it was removed the air would be released.

Was this clogged vaccum line causing all this?
Are there any other problems that can be caused by the gas tank not being vented properly?

yes, those are both for the EVAP system, if they had charcole in them, you need a canister and you need to blow out the lines and the soleniod

Yeah it looks like charcoal.
It was hard as hell cleaning out the small line. I had to use a wire snake to break it up with some purple power. Hopefully the bigger longer line is not the same way.

Is there a reason why this happened, is there a way to eliminate this emmision, it goes for $50+? Can I just gut the cannister and reuse?
