cleaning the MAF and TB
cleaning the MAF and TB
I did a serach and i noticed that everyone was saying to take the TB off.. is it possible to clean the TB without having to take it off the engine?
And what is the name of something i can use to clean my MAF? and do i spray from a certain side or does it not matter just spray and let dry.

Re: cleaning the MAF and TB
Use..... "Throttle Body Cleaner". Do not use "carb" cleaner.
The TB needs to be disassembled. The bottom plate comes off, and you can clean out the coolant and IAC passages. Remove the IAC motor and clean that out. Take a toothbrush to the throttle bores and the blades. Lube the shaft where it rotates in the housing.
Cleaning it with the TB in place could push the dirt into the intake manifold, and the liquid could get down in the IAC passages and clog them up.
Might want to consider new gaskets for the bottom plate, the top cover plate and the TB to intake manfold connection. You need to get those from a dealer. Shoebox should have the part numbers on his website.

Re: cleaning the MAF and TB
dangalla, I dont think the maf cleans itself. Mine was quite dirty and needed cleaning. To clean it, take off the MAF ends and spray the hell out of it with contact cleaner. Dont clean the little wires with cotton swabs because you dont want them to break. Just vigourously spray them with contact cleaner.
Injuneer, why dont you reccomend carb cleaner for the throttle body? I have always used it with no problems. I never took the throttle body off to clean it. Im lazy and just spray it down with carb cleaner and go from there. I can gaurantee you that if you disassemble the throttle body you can clean it better though...

Re: cleaning the MAF and TB
Got some "CRC Industries" MAF Cleaner. Its about 8 bucks a can... I used 3/4 of a can on my MAF.
Immediately I noticed better idle and more throttle responce.
I also get about 10 more miles on a tank of gas. YAY.
Ya. Dont clean it with anything else. Dont forget to unplug it too.
