Cleaning the block for head swap?

What have you guys used to clean the block before you reinstall your heads. I'm worried about getting stuff in the engine and hurting the rings or bearings. Thanks.

Put every piston at TDC before cleaning the general area, have a shop vac handy, apply brake cleaner to block/pistons and clean with a steal brush. Works fabulously.

I read in GMHTP that they used a 3M Roloc Bristle 80 grit Disc instead of a wire wheel. Less chance if getting metal in the engine and causing damage.

The shop vac is a Great Idea, instead of blowing the stuff everywhere!!!!!!

Thanks
