Chrome Header Question

I was looking at the chrome BBK headers on the RKSport web site. I was wondering how long that coating would last on them?? They go through a lot of heat cool cycles, I just can't see them being all that reliable of a coating.

Is the extra coatings offered worth spending the extra dough on??

Real chrome "plate" or just a chrome-like thermal coating?

Real chrome-plate would not be a good idea.

It looks like they're just chrome plated. They'd look good for the first month probably....

hmm, seems my link doesn't work

I found them under the Exhaust section for my 97 Camaro 5.7..

Heres the catalog cut

LT-1 Dual-Cat Headers
The Mandrel bends and twin diameter primaries allow the BBK true fit system to produce freer flowing exhaust gases. The BBK header system is a complete upper exhaust system including everything between the headers and the catalytic converter. The individual tubes are 1 5/8 in. in diameter with 3/8 in. flanges. All air injection and oxygen sensor fittings are provided. Each system is manufactured from 16-gauge steel tubing with heavy-duty manifold flanges for durability and longevity. All BBK header systems are chrome plated.

Yeah, my experience with chrome on headers hasn't been good. I bought a set back in the mid 70's for a little t-bucket I had at the time... all "show" no "go". They looked good for a few months, then starting turning colors, then started to rust. Definitely not worth the trouble. Stainless will turn colors too but a good stainless header won't rust. That's neither here or there but either way, I'd just get some coated headers and be done with it.

Good luck.
