When you chrip the tires from first to second on a A4 dose it cause any damage to the tranny.

In the long run, yeah, just like barkin them with a M6, the clutch doesnt show signs of going out right away.

 

It's better for the friction material part of the clutches because they don't slip which causes wear and heat but it puts more strain on the backing plate/metal part of clutch. Thats what blew out on my 4l60e in my blazer.

 

I had a Trans Go shift kit in mine and it hit 1st to 2nd HARD.
I put the shift kit in at about 50k and the tranny went south at about 125k. I ran it hard but did not abuse it so I don,t think I can complain.
From what I have been told having the tranny shift harder is better for it, less slip.

 

I don't know the mechanics involved, but for what it's worth, I asked Brian at PCMForLess if having firmer shifts was harder on the tranny and he told me it was actually better for the tranny. Now I don't know if you just have stock programming and are chirping from 1st to 2nd--but my PCM is programmed for firmer shifts and I typically will get a little chirp from 1st to 2nd whereas before I did not. I am a conservative driver for the most part so I am assuming that my small chirp is not causing any problems. On a side note, I think that if you're gunning it and purposely chirpping the tires it's probably going to cause some problems later on.

 

I installed the hypertech programmer it will chrip only when i bring
up the rpm,otherwise it will give me a nice firm shift.I really felt a diffrence with the programmer. Much better than the gm performance button.

I know for a fact that intentionally chirping the tires will fry the clutches in your trans. Actually my trans broke last week because of this reason. I'll say that the sole reason my trans broke was because I was ALWAYS chirping it into 2nd. Normally I wouldn't floor it and let it chirp on its own. I liked to punch it till about 35 mph, then let off the gas, and then nailed it and I'd get some crazy barking into 2nd. I definitely admit that I singlehandedly killed my trans. My car only has 60k miles on it. But I'm not complaining, this just gives me a reason to beef up my trans and throw in a stall converter.

 

If harder shifts were better for the trans what Snoochies wrote wouldnt have happened.

Chirping or spinning the tires, especially while moving is not good on the trans.

I agree with this--but I think there's a difference between harder shifts and firmer shifts. Getting your vehicle programmed for firmer shifts is not the same as gunning it and letting it kick into the next gear hard.
