chip/flash related question

I bought this car with a "chip" and a "speedo recal box" for the 3:73 gears acording to the former owner, I don't like this tune but my issue is I don't know how to get it out since he does not know exactly what IT is.

its an auto and it does NOT downshift as I'd like it so I want a new tune.

I need help here guys big time

Thanks

Maybe if you posted what you bought (year, model, etc.) someone could possibly help.
People sometimes post questions unrelated to the forum, so it could be an Edsel or a Ferrari. You gotta tell us!

There's no removable chip in the 94 and newer LT1's. Typically, the speedo is corrected for the rear end ratio by using something like a Hypertech programmer, or by reprogramming the PCM using available software or a mail order tuner to flash the new data.

If it has a "speedo recal box" (is it possible but unusual to correct that way) you would have to find where it is located and remove it or change it out.

No, a 1994 is OBD-I. A retune will change what is currently in there, but the current tune can be saved with the proper procedures.

Hypertech makes a Power Programmer for OBD-1 1994 and 1995 LT1's. Why couldn't they do that, in your opinion? What would prevent them?

OBD-I vs OBD-II has NOTHING to do with whether the chip is removable. It has to do with the diagnostic routines that were added for emissions monitoring.

The only hand held programmer available is the Hypertech, and its OK for simple things like rear axle ratio, shift points, rev limiter, speed limiter, etc. But its virtually useless with the weak "power program". A mail order tune from one of the people listed in the Supporting Vendor Index will net you 10-15HP on a stock engine. The Hypertech will give you "0".

ok I have searched Vendors and I can't seem to find who does mail order chips, only PCM reprogram.

who does a chip? I don't want to rip out the PCM to have a tune.

Thanks

Two vendors come to mind: www.madz28.com and www.pcm4less.com and you will only have the option of doing a PCM reprogram as your PCM does not have a "chip." You won't have to rip out your PCM necessarily. The way it works is one of those tuners will send you a tuned PCM and you send back your original as a core. Removal is a snap, only takes about ten minutes.

One of the board sponsor (Trifecta Performance) cans send you a custom tune in a programmer that you use and return. That way you don't have to send your PCM anywhere. Look them up in the vendor index at the top of the page.
