check gauges help
check gauges help
i have a '94 that i has been running fine until one day the engine shut off while i was driving, the check gauges light came on, and the car wouldnt start up again until the next day. once i get it started it would run fine for a day or 2 until the same thing would happen again. i gutted my cat. because at the time i couldnt afford a new one, im not sure if this is the problem...any suggestions? another thing... one of the valve covers has been leaking a bit for a while, could this also be the issue?
My check gauges light started coming on in very short burst recently. I finally saw that the oil pressure was going dangerously low during braking. The pickup tube fell off the oil pump and once I replaced it, the problem was gone. I could bang on the bottom of the pan with a mallet and hear the pickup bounce around.
Edit. Meant to say Check gauges light.

Check gauges or check engine? When the check gauges light comes on, it means to look at the gauges and see what is out of the ordinary. The check engine or service engine soon light would indicate a trouble code that could be retrieved with a scanner.
its the check gauges light, and my oil gauge and battery gauge have always moved around a bit as i was driving, but neither have gone into the red. and it doesnt always do it, one day it will run fine the next its shutting off
Ha ha.... Yeah I was wondering about wrd's response and thinking: "Well that's.......cool, but what about his check gauges light."
Yeah, are you sure there isn't a gauge that is falling below normal, etc? Let your car run at idle for a little bit and look at the temperature, oil pressure, etc. Are all your gauges working okay?
