Cheap valve springs?
Cheap valve springs?
Hey guys,
Anyone know what the best "bang for your buck" valve spring kit would be? My dad has a stock LT1 Formula that collapsed a lifter. Our buddy gave him a set of 1.6 roller rockers but we can't use the stock springs obviously. The car will NEVER be cammed, so we don't need the greatest and the best... just need a spring that can handle 1.6 roller rockers without worrying about binding. I figure now is a great time to do it since the engine's out of the car.
Any ideas?

I have always had good luck with ebay springs, the no name ones. I think they sell shipped for around $50 for a spring good to .550 lift. They should be more than enough for what you are looking to do.
I agree that the LT4 springs would be satisfactory for the OPs needs and budget.
Thanks guys - I found the Part # in another thread (Part # 12495494 in case anyone finds this thread in a search)
Can I reuse all the spring hardware or do I need new lockers, seats, etc?

I know ebay is not a name brand, its an auction site. I was simply suggesting that given the requirements he had and wanting to use inexpensive springs, go to ebay and search for .550 lift springs. You will get several for around $50 shipped. I do not know the cost of LT4 springs so I only commented on something I knew was inexpensive.
A good cheap spring that will work for that would be the Bullet VS 574 springs. They will work with stock retainers, locks, locators, etc. Just swap springs and you are good to go.
$70 shipped thru Bullet Racing Cams (662-893-8022).
These are a descent springs for mild cams and 1.6 rockers.
You can also get a set of Competion Products 98212 spring (1-800-233-0199). these are about $50 shipped and can ahndle a stock cam or Hot Cam with 1.6 rockers but I would not use them with aftermarket cams. A step down from the above springs but still an upgrade over the Hot Cam springs.
