Re: Charging Problems

You don't understand. The belt rides on top of the damper. If it is spinning the alt will never turn at the correct rpm and will never charge the battery.

Think he's got your problem down cold. Put the mark on the side of the hub where it meets the crank. Makes sense to me since when your idling higher, your voltage is higher. But, are you using a voltmeter or still relying on the gage in the dash?

Re: Charging Problems

this was the problen I had on mine. Damper looked fine, but I took the belt off I could turn the outside hub. It also make noise like the fan belt was slipping.

Re: Charging Problems

Try tightening the bolt with loc-tite using an impact gun. Put your white mark on it again and go for a ride. If it slips again, you're gona have to remove the hub and see what the end of the crank shaft looks like.

The only thing that bothers me about this theory is it should be squeeling like a pig at a roast. But I did'nt see you mention anything about noise. Is it noisy?

Re: Charging Problems

it sounds fine at idle and at high rpm i found that Thunder racing sells a keyed hub for the LT1 that might be the way to go if it is slipping i try it tonight and post my findings

Re: Charging Problems

yes, that is correct. Two ways: 1. remove the belt and see if you can move the outside ring by hand. 2. paint a straight line acroo the front of the damper. then either let the car idle for 10 mins or drive it around the block and see if the line you painted still lines up. You may want to rev it up a couple of times to be sure the damper isn't moving before you check if there wasn't any line movement.

Re: Charging Problems

Have someone press the throttle to about 1000 and measure the battery voltage.
