Charged A/C with 134 and still not cold?
Charged A/C with 134 and still not cold?
My AC hasn't been blowing cold this year, it is cool buy not cold like my other car. So I went to local parts store and picked up a can of R134 with the pressure guage. The pressure was a little low so I added a can and it now where it should be according to the guage. (40 psi) The AC is blowing a little cooler but not much. I can hear the compressor??? engaging. What else could by my problem and what do you think I am looking at for repair costs?
Thanks guys!!!
Thanks guys!!!
If all the refrigerant leaked out at some time or another there is a chance that air/moisture could have gotten into the system. In this case you would have to put a vacuum on the system and recharge. It can't be that much at Pep Boy's. Give them a call. There isn't to much that can go wrong with the a/c on a car. If the compressor is engaging and diengaging rapidly something is wrong. Hope this helps somewhat.

I'm no expert on ac but this I do know. If the compressor is engaging and disengaging constantly then the compressor is low of refrigerant and if you have 40 psi in the line then it sounds like you have a blockage somewhere. Also is your other car R12 or 134 because the r12 is a lot colder than 134 atleast from what I've ever felt.
Good luck

The car HAS been converted right? Well, I guess if you were able to hook the new can up it has. Any way, I would check the accumulator, orifice tube, and then have a vacum drawn on it, and refill it with all new refrigerant. "IF" the compressor and clutch assembly is still good. Mike
Update
Well, I called Pep-Boys and had the car worked on yesterday. They told me the problem was that there must have been air in the lines and the pressure was way too high. 40 on the low side and 400 on the high
I told them I used a recharge kit w/guage bought from thier store and followed directions accordingly. The low side wasn't that far off but since I couldn't measure the high side I had no idea it was that high. Luckly I didn't ruin anything and just had to pay for a evac and recharge. I think I may invest in a set of guages before attempting anything like that again.
