hey guys, i heard rumor that you may be able to change pistons from underneath without removing the motor. is this possible with LT1s?

if not, how do you guys do it? pull the motor out the top like usual?

im just thinking about when it comes time to put some forged pistons in.

It's a lot easier to pull the motor.

out of the top correct? some people have said that it comes out the bottom because the motor sits so far under the dash.

 

You can do it either way, though I've heard it's easier to drop it out the bottom.

 

Bottom is much easier if you have a lift.

A hoist helps too, because you don't have a cherypicker in your way.

 

so if your gonna do all the work to get the motor out the bottom, then why not just leave it in the car and pull the crank, rods and pistons out the bottom?

 

And how exactly with the motor in the car are you going to hone or bore if need be your cylinders among other things for the new rings and pistons you will be using and at the same time keeping metal out of the motor

 

so when you put new pistons in you have to bore the cylinders????

 

You don't have to bore the motor, but if you're buying new pistons anyway, you may as well have the block checked to make sure everything is nice and straight. No sense in putting round pistons into oval holes.
