Changing opti, should I replace WP as well?

Should I replace the water pump since I will be replacing opti soon. The car has 85K miles on it, I am pretty sure WP is stock but its working good and I didn't see any leaks from it.

If so does anyone know where can I get a good price on AC Delco WP.

Also, how important is so change the two seals when doing opti (can't remember what they are called right now). That's the part that worries me the most, I know that one smaller seal is little tricky to get it in.

I know about to lock tie the two bolts in the opti.

Thanks.

Personally I would recommend that you replace all the seals on the timing cover (crank seal, opti and water pump) along with the water pump. I would also recommend that you tap the weep hole, install a small barb fitting and route a hose away from the opti so that a failure of the wp wont take out the opti... just my .02

As far as sourcing the pump, Id check Rock Auto, GM parts direct, etc and see whats available. I used a cheap replacement pump last time and havent had any problems, but not many miles yet either...

Is it grinding inside? Is it leaking out the weep hole at all?

I just replaced one with 167,000 miles and even though it sounded rough it hadn't given up yet.

I wouldn't unless it was having problems. I don't like spending money unless I have to. I put a new GM one on a car years ago just because I was there doing the opti, 15,000 miles later it was toast... waste of money cause the old one was fine.

Odds are the old one will fail before a new one. I would probably replace it. Mine was leaking out the weep hole before it reached 100K miles. Check shbox.com for part sources.

buy one with a lifetime warranty from autozone and replace it. if it goes bad and leaks out the weep hole in the future its no more money out your pocket. i really liked 6772owners idea about tapping the weep hole and routing a tube away from your opti. im gona do that next time
