Unhappy Changing OPTI,PLUGS,& WIRES any good advice"?

Hey everyone,

Changing Optispark, Plugs and Wires on my 1993 pontiac firebird, Formula. I have had the electric fan water pump and harmonic balancer off before when I changed just the cap and rotor so I know it's easier to get to with taking that stuff off, but what would be some good advice with the wires and plugs before I start? Anything else I should do before getting started?

Thanx for the info

1993 Burgandy Pontiac Firebird,Formula. All stock no mods other than stereo. 136,000 miles ran strong till opti went caput.

make sure the wires go to the right plug, i see you have an electric wp so no advice there. good luck, Myself and a friend and change an opti in 55min. plugs and wires take about another 30min, while your down there. keep the wires off the manifold.

Cool thanx. I'm not gonna change the wires till I get the new opti in that way I don't mess up the firing order. In those 55 min did you have any probs with the keyed spline on the opti or did it go right in for you as soon as you slid her in there? Hey if it only took you 30 minutes to do plugs and wires on an lt1 then you can come over and do mine for me.

Tools: good plug wrench (the kind with a angled head) and 3 point gear puller (harmonic balancer).

Other: a friend with small hands/arms, beer, music, patience.

My opti install was a PITA!!! But then again I was dealing with parts that were rusted on since 1995.

Since you're practically redoing the entire ignition, might as well replace your coil & wire too.

Just a note on my plugs and wires. I had to get the sucker on a lift and have a friend help for the pass side plugs and wires...esp. the one in the back of the pass side...was a royal pain.

Good luck mate,

Ah but the end result will be a smooth running fun feeling ride. At least it made a big noticeable difference for me.
