Changing the Oil

In the past I've changed my oil by driving the front of my car up on Rhino Ramps, but I was wondering since the drain plug is toward the front of the car, am I leaving too much oil in the pan doing it this way? What do you put your car up on when you change your oil?

I dont really think its enough to matter if your changing it every 3000 miles and using good oil and a good new filter.

I just pulled my oil pan for an engine rebiuld and the oil left in the pan was minimal and clean(no particals).

One thing you can do if you dont allready is fill the filter with oil prior to installation.

I usually jack my car up, remove the plug and filter, then lower it back down and let the remainder drain out. I haven't noticed a substantial amount of oil drain out when I lower it down, but I like to be thorough.

I'll usually jack the car up, take the front driver's side tire off, remove the plug, lower until the rotor is about 3-4in from the ground to be sure to get it all out, then run about 1/3-1/2 qt through to get all the junk in the bottom of the pan out and let that drain. Jack it back up, put the tire back on, and fill her up!

Okay, I thought I was thorough, my mistake.

the plug is towards the front of the car?? the front of the car would be infront of the k-member... the plug is behind the k-member. also there is a low spot where the plug is on the oil pan so most of the oil should get out the way you do it. i just use jack stands to get under the car.. then jack up on the pass side of the car a few inches for the oil to drain out better.

I just do it as i always have, Rhino ramps drain, filter change and refill. All the power to the people who want every last drop of oil out of the pan. It still doesnt take the sludge out of the oil passeges. Some tranny fluid in there will though.

I found that ramps can leave quite a bit of oil in the back of the pan. I use a shop jack & 4 jack stands, raising the pass. side higher than the driver's.

I pull the front up on ramps, then jack the rear up until its level.
