changing lifter, have to remove intake?
Ive got a lifter problem on the number 7 cylinder the intake valve, its a 96 ss that is stock, the question i have is if i can change this without removing the intake, i was just gonna take it off tonight but people have been tellin me that i can use a tool to get the lifter out, the one problem is it is hard to get in the head because its in the back of the engine, any help is appreciated..
Re: changing lifter, have to remove intake?
You'll have to pull the intake off. Then take the "spider" off that holds down the lifter retainers.
There is a tool designed to remove the lifter, but I've never needed it. It is a spring tool that grabs the lifter when it is in the bore... but the intake still needs to come off.

...may also want to replace all the lifters depending on your mileage.
You may be confusing the heads with the intake. The heads can stay on the engine

Re: changing lifter, have to remove intake?
Ill check it out with the intake off the car only has 65k miles, no the reason i was wondering about the intake is because someone said i could slide a claw device through the head and grab the lifter but i didnt know, thanks for the help though
Re: changing lifter, have to remove intake?
Have to take the intake off as well as the rocker for that cylinder so you can remove the spider and pushrod so you can slide the lifter out. Why do you think it's a lifter? Seems odd a lifter would go out on a 65K motor. Like said above you might look into replacing all of them so you don't have to go back in there. Stock replacements are around $200 from Comp I think.
Re: changing lifter, have to remove intake?
The rocker keeps coming loose after adjusting it and ive put a a new pushrod and rocker on, last time i tried adjusting it seemed like the lifter had bottomed out or something of that sort, it didnt seem to seat correctly and then it bent the pushrod, and im guessing it messed up after 65k because it sat for over a year and wasnt started or anything not sure about that.
