Re: Change Valve Springs??

Any place i can get some basic, standard LT1 valves for pretty cheap? Might do valves if they are bad-I think i'll take a look when i do the springs.

White Knight -- Here's a link to Comp's spec page:

I did have to pull out the inner damper springs for them to fit on the stock seats.

well another bad part about it is that the LT1 will never sound or feel like a LS1 up top. If you have ever ridden in a LS1 Z or TA(I can bet you have) You will know that there top end is so much stronger and smoother. So when I ride in my buddy 98 Z then I go and get into my car, it feels like its dieing above 5000. But if you are losing power above 4000 then something is wrong. I just put a msd box on my car and that seemed to really clean up the way my car ran, especially up top. It may not be any faster, but it has a lot more response and the high rpm occasional miss is gone and it now pulls hard to the limiter. But i still feel like the springs are going crazy trying to keep the valves under controll. As far as a replacement spring, I just plan on getting some LT4 springs from a hot cam kit. There dirt cheap, they fit and I am no where near ready to do a motor in my car so putting springs that can handle .600 lift will be a waste b/c by the time I get around to putting a cam in my car those spring will also be worn. Hope this helps.

Re: Change Valve Springs??

Why not just get some LE1 heads for $750? Thats springs, retainers, etc plus a port job.

130K miles is a lot on valve springs for a performance car. But the only way to know if they are good is to take them out and test them. At that point, you might as well replace them.

Really? everyone always says they are dirt cheap, but i could never finde them very cheap. I will look into it. If they are like $40 i will definately do it.

Re: Change Valve Springs??

Are the locks and spring caps the same as the LT1 or should i get those too? They are only like $21 together. You think they are any lighter?

Re: Change Valve Springs??

Well, I just put in LT4 springs, LT4 retainers, and LT4 locks. The retainers and locks looked identical to the LT1's. I dropped a single LT4 lock, and used a lt1 lock in it's place and it was fine.

Maybe someone else knows for sure.

Re: Change Valve Springs??

I had a simular performance drop and found the cat converter had broken up inside and was plugging the outlet of the converter resulting in tremendous back pressure, major power loss above 3500rpm.

Re: Change Valve Springs??

Make SURE you get the LT-4 retainers. I didn't and it cost me an engine. Dropped a valve @6000.
