change timing set?

change timing set?

ok motor out of car..installing a comp cams 305..i have 100k on the clock do i need to replace the timing set? i called summit and they said 400 bucks..i dont have that kinda money rite now...what should i do? is there anything cheaper?

You could do a Cloyes 3145 double roller and electric water pump cheaper than that, or just leave it alone unless theres a problem with it.

I would change it out with a new stock set. Make sure you replace both the chain and the sprockets.

well its got 100k on it...and im changing the cam

Have you checked to see if the chain has worn out? Is there unacceptable slack?

He would also need to do a Gen II opti conversion on his 94 to run the 3145. Which includes a new opti, timing cover, opti wire harness, and opti vaccuum harness.

You can get a Cloyes timing set for 95 bucks at northernautoparts.com, Correct me if i'm wrong but I think they made them originally for GM.

ok i pulled the cover off today and the chain does have slack...how do i measure if its too much?

dude just use a stock replacement set from gm, it is cheap and very rarely do they break, almost never compared to aftermarket junk
