chambered true duals

Exhaust has always been a big deal for me, and I'm looking to get a clean, deep, agressive sound out of a system. I've done my research and read about all the different catbacks available for the f-body, and I think that although borla and corsa sound great, I want to go with a chambered setup. GMMG and stainless works both make chambered catbacks that sound good, but are not cheap. I was getting some ideas of having a catted true dual setup fabricated using some chambered mufflers. I found out that someone with an ls1 did the same thing and is very happy with the setup (testimonials on sweet thunder website) For about the same amount of money I'd be getting a chambered true dual system that will sound and perform better than a single in dual out setup. What do you guys think? Im open for imput? i was thinking of something like this, maybe with an H crossover instead.

id run it on stock manifolds now, so i dont think clearance will be that big of an issue.

^concept.. it would need to be quiet enough for daily driving as well. I was thinking 2.5" piping with 18" mufflers all around.

With cats and 4 mufflers I would imagine it would be pretty quiet. Also a shop may have trouble fabbing something up to the mainfolds. Plus not sure if you can even fit a pipe over the drivers side axle. If your keeping cats and maifolds you might want to look into getting a cat-back, the extra money spent on duels most likely will go un-noticed in the sound and performance department.

It will be pretty raspy/loud without cats and will sound nice with cats. The
design looks good. You will need to relocate the fuel lines for the pipe going
over the axle on the drivers side.

If your long range plan is for shortys or mids (i.e., not long tubes) you can
run the pipes on the pass side in the stock location and fit two cats there.
This is what I did and it works fine.

Yea, just getting it over the d/s axle will be a pain. Not sure how that would work.
But yea, I think chambered mufflers are the best setup. If you decide what you want to do won't work, find a gp on a GMMG. I found one on ls1tech.com and got mine for 600 shipped.

Ive got what your talking about. It is very loud, and deep. It sounds awsome but it needs to go out the back because you cant hear yourself think. Check sig for pics.

Re: chambered true duals

I have 3" duals with the ST chambered muffler (3"x18") that moves from TPiS long tube headers back into an H-pipe. From there it goes through two chambered mufflers, over the axle and out the back.

Love it!

Re: chambered true duals

yea, i think it would be a good idea to put two sets of chambered mufflers to reduce the noise. Im not out for the volume, but for the quality. also, it would be for a daily driver, and interior drone would have to be minimal. I might have to route both 2.5 inch pipes over the axle on the passengers side as well. have to see what the shop guys say about it

Interior resonance with going over the axle is completely minimized.

Re: chambered true duals

revised concept.. i would have the setup built without the first set of mufflers and add them in if the car is too loud for daily driving. Routing both 2.5" pipes over the passengers side of the axle will prevent interference with the fuel lines. I know it will fit over the axle because it has been done before by others on this site. still open for opinions

Re: chambered true duals

You will seriously need mufflers on a dual setup. I hear even with 2 bullets the systems are still insanely loud so 2 cats and maybe 2 bullets would be in order. BMR makes a panhard rod that is bent to accept duals over the axle.. check into that.

Re: chambered true duals

my setup looks identical only the mufflers are before the axle, not after. it has a great tone at idle and really opens up at wot.

The chambered pipes are considered mufflers. My initial plan was to put two sets of chambered mufflers in the system, one set before and one set after the axle. People were then telling me that it would be too quiet, so I might just use one set and add the second if it is way too loud for daily driving. I wouldnt need the modified panhard rod because im only running 2.5 duals.
