Is the CC503 A good choice?

I will be building a 355 with a LE intake and LE2 heads. Is the CC503 a good choice for drivabily (surging, etc...). It is a A4 mostly for driving and VERY limited track time - if any at all. Primarily concerned about drivability and decent power. I will get it tuned/dynoed after it is built. I have a Gift Certificate from Summit (my Christmas present ), so it has to be an off the shelf cam that they sell. I did some research and the CC503 seems like a good choice, but I just wanted to make sure and I am open to any suggestions. A lopey idle is fine or a smooth idle - doesnt matter to me. I will be buying supporting mods also (headers, injectors, fuel pump, etc...). Thanks!

You could buy the CC503, but it will be considerbly to small for LE2 heads. You may want to just the LE2 to go with the LE2 heads, that would be the easiest. Assuming the bottom end can take the rpms. Not sure how streetable the LE2 is.

I've seen people make good power with cc503 and ported heads, it's not OPTIMAL but it'll still work imo

it'd be better than most off-the-shelf imo, but if you're going LE2 you might as well get an LE2 cam

Would LE1 heads be more suitable for that cam? I have not had the head work done yet, so I can save a few $ by going with LE1 instead.

I would find a way to work around that. I wouldn't let that be a deciding factor in a cam install, IMHO.

I ran the 503, and liked it. I think you will want more cam with LE2 heads. You could try the 847.

I asked Lloyd adbout the 503 and the LE1 heads he told me that it would make about 5hp less. So it you have to get a shelf cam with summit I would do the 503 and the LE1 heads. Use the money you will save on the LE1 vs LE2 heads and put the money towards a stall you will need one.

if you want the le2 heads, you could checkout the comp 306 cam. its pretty big but would compliment those heads very well. my friend runs that cam in an a4 with similar heads & it goes 10.80's with 125 shot and full bolt ons. otherwise, i think the 503 would work just fine with le1 or le2 heads. it has good drivability and will make plenty of power with good bottom end torque.

There's way more to a cam swap than simply buying a cam.

You can use the GC for all the valvetrain and timing chain and gaskets and such... Unless that GC is huge and you can buy ALL of it from them.

use the GC for random parts your going to need. There will be plently, of stuff to use that for. I wouldnt let it decide what cam will go in my motor.

Dont sell yourself short, get the le2 cam. You can have one ground to your needs, you will be glad after everything is said and done.

Thats a really good idea, I never even thought about him buying the hidden costs.

CC503 is a good cam if you want stock heads (or stock ported heads) and it's a DD. Honestly though you won't pick up much more hp over a hotcam kit, so if money is a issue the hotcam kit will be cheaper.

LE2 and a 503cam is a good setup.
You don't need a BIG cam to go fast.
I use the 268xfi or 07-466-8.
Good power with great drivability.
For the type of driving he is doing its a good choice.
Here is my friends car a heads cam 305 in the 10's
He is in the right lane.
