cc306 vs GM847 vs custom...
Re: cc306 vs GM847 vs custom...
very intreguing alan. Thanks for the heads up. I have been learing that you can get excellent flowing heads, and then go with a little tamer cam, and get some awesome numbers....
So, its all a learning thing for me. I am trying to get as much knowledge as possible, and hopefully that will ultimately help me chose the right setup!

I was allways told that you build the car around the cam and cubic inch. A custom cam designed by a person that takes all the spec of you car and what rpm range you want will perform the best with a correct tune. You can have the most match parts but if not timed (degreed in)right and custom tuned its worthless.

Firebirdstud....I have always liked the smaller cams...My new one is from Joe Overton and its still fairly small for a 383...22X/23X .568" lift, but it works great and I run consistent 11.50s at 118 thru shorty headers and am far from dragstrip optimised. Also got 21 mpg on the highway with the Joe O. cam...My numbers on the dyno are all over the place I've been 400, 360, 385 all on Dynojets...I don't care much for the numbers anymore I let the track do the talking...You cannot go wrong with the LPE cam, however...

see, that is kinda what I am going for, great consistency on the street. I am not a dyno queen by any means, I want to get the job done on the street, and if I do go to the track, I want to drive it home on the freeway for a fun spirited drive! :-) I guess I need to stop dwelling on the hp numbers, and just pick a good cam that will perform awesome on the street. What heads are you runnin? I was thinkin of trick flow...

I'm running LT1s CNC/hand ported by LPE with 2.00/1.56 valves, titanium retainers...Just recently gone thru with additional porting by E.B. Porting (Joe's porter)...and freshened up with a 3 angle valve job and clean up...

Hey sorry..Tylenol PM kicked in last night...The only flow #s I have are at .550" lift...intake: 258 exhaust: 180...They are trying to find all the flow #s which are saved in their computer....They said the heads flowed very respectable for LT1s with those valves....
