CC306 too much?
CC306 too much?
Is a cc 306 too much cam to use on a car with bolt on's and stock heads? I would like to put in a cam but the 305 and hot cam seem a litle too small. What kind of numbers would you expect to see from a 306 in a car with slp headers, orp, catback, CAI and free mods?

The CC306 has been out since the mid 1990s, do you have any idea how many threads are deciated to that cam? Do a search and I garuntee you'll get way more info than can EVER be posted in this one thread. Far as runnig high 12s stock headed, right set up you could hit 11s on the stock heads with that cam.
The 306 is not that bad, not optimum but not that bad. The GM847 is up there with the 306. If you are looking at a cam for stock heads then the cam in this thread http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...30#post2126030
is a good choice. I'm calling it the BRE-M1.6 and it's not the biggest cam you can do for a stock head LT1, we have some more for that, but it's a good cam for high HP and good midrange TQ.

I too have the cam. Myself and everyone who hears it loves its lopey idle, and aggresive sound. I have not yet taken it to the track to get some numbers out of it, but I have raced a 99 Eclipse GSX running 12.3 and I did win
But I'm not going to run around saying I run low 12's when I don't have the slip.

The cam is not too shabby. Had it now for a couple weeks but I went all out and did heads as well. It runs decent on stock heads but shines with LT's, tune, and better flowing numbers from the heads. Since you will have half the motor apart why not do heads as well?
I have this cam, and it ROCKS! You can't go wrong w/ the CC306.
I had that cam in my basement for 2 years afraid to put it in, b/c everyone would be telling me of its demands, ect.
I REGRETTED not putting it in earlier. You can run it w/ stock heads, but it just can't be using its full potential. LTs are awesome, and the idle...the idle...I have NEVER heard its match,
and I have been around a lot of F-bodies.
I say go for it, but replace everything in there you can afford to replace. I.e., SPRINGS!

Yes. The car will not run good, and you will probably see a night and day difference from going from stock tune, to a full tune. The cam has alot more durration compared to the stock cam. The PCM is going to freak out, and there is no way it will be able to tame the. With a good dyno tune, the cam will yield big power, and can be tamed for good streetability. I have a bud who's running this cam on un ported heads. He says the thing really pulls hard up top.
I wouldnt run less then a 2600 stall for a auto. Because of the characteristics of the cam, your idle will need to be raised. And your stock converter isnt going to help out at a stoplight with it loping away.
Play it smart. replace the, lifters, springs, retainers, locks, valve seals, pushrods, timing chain, and opti. If you dont play it smart your going to max out your oem parts that were not made to even take the stress of the cam.
Yes, you need to get the pcm tuned, yes, you need a minimum of 2800 stall AND gears higher then those stock gears or you will never get to enjoy the newfound power. A minimum of 3.42 gears or numerically higher will put you in the ball park
