CC306 question

So I'm working on the rebuild of the exploded engine and I have a question.

I've decided to go with the CC306 and a set of k-motion k800's. It says recommended install height is 1.85. How do I accomplish this? Do I remove the seats and the spring on the head? or do I keep those and pick up some -.05 locks?

Sorry I'm new to putting something together custom. I just intalled my HOT cam and it came with seats and retainers etc.

Summits "recommended parts" section didn't list seats at all.

Thanks for clearing up my confusion.

No offense, but take it to a machine shop....they can set them up right. Check all the installed ht. and pressures.

Its not very expensive......and you don't have the right tools or know how so just do it once.

well I do take offense. Not to be disrepectful as I know you know your stuff.

I plan on purchasing the correct tools and this is not going to be a one time thing.

Thanks for answering the ? by the way. I think that I am intelligent enough to decided if I'm in over my head. I'm just asking for a little insight as to where to start and what is acceptable. It's that idealoligy that keeps people from learning new things... too afraid to ask!

you need to machine the seats the k-800 is bigger
you need the mathing locators
What valves do you have? Don't know what installed ht. you would have right now......You may end up needing a +.050 lock or you may have longer valves...I don't know.

You will need a spring mic. or something to check that with. A good set of digital calipers are always nice to have to check things quickly. I use that with a telescoping gauge. Its quicker than aq regular spring mic.

What about a valve job, check giudes etc. all that needs to be done too.
Go find a book on valve trains....it will tell you a bunch of stuff with pics so it will be easier.

Do you have a cast camshaft? b/c if you do I would set the k-800's up light. Thats a hard spring.

awesome! thats a little more what I was looking for. Are you sure they need to be machined? I was told that was just a drop in.

If they need machining I might just go with the CC918 or PAC 1218. Those are just drop in right? and I'm sure the price increase would be less than the seat altering.

As for valves and what not (stock by the way) I know you can't give me any numbers with out knowing all variables, definately don't need that.

I'm more curious about the assembly. I've done some research here and on CC's FAQ page.

Right now I'm running gasket matched heads and intake. I've decided to send my spare set of heads out to get ported and cleaned up around august but I would like to be able to have some fun with the car over the summer.

You could just buy the crane 10308 spring kit and slap em on. Comes with everyone and works with the lt1 head. It was recommended to me when I ran the cc306 a few years ago.

I was wondering about those. I noticed that was a common suggestion as well with gm847.

Any other opinions on this set up?

You will most likely not be able to achieve a 1.85" installed height with stock valves if you use a standard spring locator which is about .060" thick. You need longer valves to do this. Since you are going to buy some tools you might as well play around with your spring height mic first and test fit one retainer, lock and spring seat. These parts can usually be purchased in singles and it's worth it if you have the time to experiment.

If you want more options for spring locators you can have the spring pockets opened up to 1.580" (not deepened).

What seat/locator are you running with these springs?
