$1800 for a cam swap Are you CRAZY?!?

First off, I wouldn't even take it to a dealer. They're going to charge you ~60/70 hr + rip you off on all the misc pieces that may need to be replaced. THey wouldn't install a fuel pump that I brought to them, they had to use a GM replacement. Find a reputable shop in your area.

Better than that, is take that $1800, invest in some tools, jacks, jackstands etc., and learn to do it your damn self, have some tools out of the deal, and a sense of accomplishment. There's plenty of how-to's, and with patience you can get it done. Not sure what your experience/knowledge is though working on cars...

Here's a good guide to springs:

Valve Timing Tutorial:

FIgure spending ~$200 on some roller rockers.

There is no "CC 306 kit" that I'm aware of. The cam itself goes for $240 from Summit though. Combination Motorsports may have something in a package, I'm going to call them on Monday to find out, as I'm in the same situation as you.

Pricewise kinda depends on how wild you want to get with it. I wouldn't waste $1800 on a cam swap. I'm having my long block rebuilt into a 383 for $2500, which includes a cam...

Im 17 dont have anyone or friends know **** about internals so i guess ill call around and see what it would cost to get it done go from there, i dont want to attempt this and really become screwed it maybe straight forward but i dont want to take a chance on really tearing up the motor and not being able to finish or go back to how it was also what should i look to pay for the install then good price range! and not just the cam i would need the valve springs and push rods and rocker arms and what ever else needs to be installed all that good stuff

Post your location so we can help you find someone to do it.

Here is what one would pay in San Antonio to do it:

$300 Installation
$240 CC306 Cam
$190 Comp R Lifters
$145 Cloyes Double Roller Timing Chain

=$875 + gaskets and misc items. Easily can have it done for under $1000 including the labor. If you dont have them, you can get the Crane 10308-1 Spring Retainer Kit for $145 and it will handle the CC306 cam just fine.

I would suggest full roller rockers. You shouldn't need to change your cam bearings, but check them anyway. You can do the swap in the car, so no need to pull the motor. I've had friends do this, having never attempting it before, over the course of one weekend. I'd say with patience and some online help, you could do the same; just get a few extra hands around to help with some of the labor.

Is this cc306 going on stock heads? Has anyone seen a stock-headed LT1 do well with the 306? I haven't, which is why I went with the 305 and competition motorsports springs.

I'd do it yourself. Might take you all weekend or a little into the week...but $800 or more in your pocket sounds worth it to me!!

There are a few people including myself running the 306 on stock heads.. I havent gotten any numbers on my car but friend of mine (xxsaintx or something like that on here) also has it on his car and ran a mid 12 at around 115-116 mph with stock WOT tuning...

And just do the cam install yourself, I did it, its not hard at all, just take apart and put back together.
