CC306 Install Progress! Pics inside :)

Ok well I typed up a whole page, and got kicked before I could hit submit I'll put more details tomorrow.

Installing: CC306, 918s, Vented Opti, CSR EWP, Cloyes double roller timing chain, 36# SVOs.

I started last monday, now been 9 days, about 5 actually working. Maybe 20 hrs total at this point, working methodically with my buddy. Right now I've got the cam in, timing chain on, intake and injectors on, throttle body on, wiring and vacuum hoses mostly hooked up. My buddy is clearancing the new timing cover tonight, so tomorrow we'll have the whole thing back together except for valve covers because I'm waiting on spring seats, retainers, valve seals, and rocker nuts which are supposed to be here thursday or friday.

I have about 60 pictures I'll post some pictures tomorrow that show our progress. Anyone want to host a short before and after video clip for me? Oh nm, streetfire....

I went with 36# injectors because I'll be porting my heads and intake this spring and throwing on a 50 shot or so I've got 77k on it right now, so I won't hit the button much until I can afford a new shortblock. HAHA at that point I'll drop the 150 jets in a try to run as many high 10s as possible.

I'm also still running shorties at this point because I had planned on staying smog legal before, but when i do my heads I'll be going to the appropriate pacesetter lt and ory. In the meantime my cat will be getting some surgery with a pipe welded through.

Any thoughts, praise, encouragement, and criticism welcome. Shoebox thanks for your cam install page, although i used it mostly for bolt sizes because I am lazy. Really I would encourage anyone apprehensive about doing a cam swap to just do it. It's not difficult, just time consuming and requires cleanliness and patience. I'm 18 and in college doing this over my christmas break. Also the seach function on here is the best source of information you could ask for.

Question 1: Should I get:
A. Ported stock tb
B. Aftermarket 52 mm tb (which brand)
C. Aftermarket 58 mm tb (which brand)

I'm thinking of getting a used 52mm, but will that be sufficient when i get my heads ported on juice? I want 410 rwhp n/a.

Question 2: I want to get rid of my 17x9 and 17x11 ZR1s this summer and buy some chrome Z06s. I know I'm going with the 18x10.5 in the rear, but would you recommend the 18" or 17" in the front? I'm thinkin 17s, but 18s would be blingin right? haha

Re: CC306 Install Progress!

To answer your first Question: I don't think it is really needed to go to a bigger throttle body or even port the stock one. I heard of LT1's making damn near 450 RWHP with stock TB. Just my opinion though.

And for number two: I have Y2K vette rims on my 95 Z. 18's in the back and 17's up front. If it were up to me I'd trade the front 17's for 18's to have those all the way around. Unless of course I go drag racing then I'd prefer 15" Weld Pro Stars all around. Again, these are my opinions. Can't wait to see pics of your cam install. Also, It would be nice to hear it when completed.

Good luck!

Re: CC306 Install Progress!

I wanted to make this a strip car eventually, but my mom's cousin's husband (2nd cousin?) owns a 5.0 that he road races as part of a club. And I think I'm going to make this a street/track car and smoke his a$$ haha. When I graduate from college I'll probably buy a 5.0 myself and make that my strip car. I love f-bodys more than anything, but a t-trim'd 5.0 on draglites gets me goin too. Otherwise mustangs suck, long live camaro.

Nothing against a Mustang in my book. I had an 88 LX 5.0 and I loved it. Never got anywhere with it, my Camaro's are too important to me
If you said you were gonna get an Import and go drifting.., you may have a problem.
