cc306 cam questions

Ok so I was thinking of getting a cc306 cam. A buddy has one hes willing to sell to me. If I have the cc306 cam, machined comp springs and retainers, 1.6rr's and new gaskets, I am set right. I have done some research and I have read that you may need machine work done to the heads because its a big cam. Is this true? Remeber, this is the internet and everyone is a mechanic and has a 10 sec car. How big is it really, I need it to be streetable. Who has had this cam before, and what did you think? By the way, I have a 94 formula a4 with intake, exhaust, cutout, airfoil, and shiftkit.

I know of people who have tossed in a cam like this with only changing the gaskets and springs, nothing else.

You'd probably want some Comp R lifters if you plan on running RPM's above ~6200 and a replacement timing chain; something a bit more heavy duty. Id also replace the timing sprocket and, if at all possible, pick up some 7/16" studs for your rockers (if they'd fit)

Re: cc306 cam questions

The cam won't make all its power without p&p heads IMO. It will also need a tune, some guys have run it without but I would spend the $$$ and get one. As far as streetable I think mine is great. The cam makes power up high and pulls till about 6800 or more. So if your not willing to rev your motor that high it might not be the right cam for you. I run mine up to 6500rpm and it pulls hard, I've only once hit 6800. I love it and consider mine very streetable.
