Cc306?

Will the comp cams 306 run well on stock heads until I swap them?

some people agrue that it's too much cam for stock heads, or that you won't see the full potential of the cam without porting...in theory, they may be right, but i've seen a handful of stock headed cars make slightly more that 350 rwhp with the proper bolt-ons/supporting mods. it's an old design, but in my opinion it's still one of the better/proven cams that you can get off the shelf...
i'm putting my 355 back together with a set of AFR heads and will be running the cc306 cam.

mine traps 114 with full weight - the front sway bar and spair tire. All being done on stock heads and shortblock with 197k miles on them, i would say it worrks pretty well

I agree with him, some folks have seen traps as high as 115 full weight with the CC306. Which is one of the many reasons I just put one into the block last night. Although someone will step in here, say its old *** technology and tell you to get the super duper XFI lobe series. Tried and True is what I see the CC306 as.

Many people run that grind on stock heads. As mentioned above, make sure you have the necessary supporting valvetrain mods to handle the cam though.

He has no track times, maybe he doesn't need any track times, we don't know what kind of dyno, dyno #'s can be miss leading anyways, and he said he loves it. How about we leave it at that if he's happy. The 306 does work, and many guys have gone pretty damn fast with it, old tech or not.

that's kind what i was getting at...people can holler old technology all they want, but the cc306 is PROVEN to make power in any setup, including stock heads, and trap some wicked mph and make cars plain and simply FAST. it's one of my favorite cams, even including the new 503 and other xfi lobe cams

Yes, it will work fine with stock heads, but valvetrain upgrades are a must.

So going with the cc306 on stock heads, what springs and supporting bolt on's would you suggest? Got a list and ~price range?

Check my sig, thats what i would go with, it works very well together, comp 918 beehives with steel retainers with 1.6 pro mags, hardened pushrods and guideplates. Double roller timing set with electric water pump. Should cost you about 1500. Its not cheap if you do it right.

Thats about the price range I was hoping for actually. Would those mods compare to the cc503 as well? I'm a good ways from actually buying a cam, but after wheels and tires I plan on a cam so I'm starting to try and figure out what I want. Its between those 2 I think.

I have timing gears so how will that affect what I need?
And the electric water pump is a might as well do it while your in there mod right?
I don't know anything about cams, still reading up.
Thanks for the price range and parts list tho that is somewhere to start. I can start picking up the small stuff paycheck by paycheck until I have everything lol.
