CC306 on a 114 LSA
CC306 on a 114 LSA
I've been pondering the idea of swapping out the cc305 and going with a cc306. Reasoning? More power - almost every car I've seen with a CC306 on stock heads has ran well. KreinMC's car trapped 112.6 with shorties and 3.42s...Saint's car traps 115 with LTs and 4.10s.
If I do go with the 306, I'm thinking of having it ground on a 114 LSA. This will give me a broader power curve, smoother idle and better driveability. My biggest concern of going with this cam is the driveability issue.
Has anyone had a 306 ground on a 114 LSA? If so, how did it drive? What gears do you have?
Thanks

Sounds like a good idea...
I would recommend bumping up the intake centerline also (from 108 to 110) to maintain a 4 degree advance from the 114 lsa if your staying NA... If you're planning on using nitrous, then it might help a little to keep the 108 ICL w/114 LSA so the exhaust opens a little sooner...

If you are planning to run NA, I wouldn't choose the cc306 on a 114 LSA. I know of two people that have done it and the cars made maybe 10 rwhp more than you can make with the cc305 (380ish rwhp) but lost a ton of bottom end torque and drivability. If you want to step up from the cc305, get a meaningful power increase and retain some drivability, I'd go with an Xtreme 224/236/112 LSA. The cc306/114 isn't worth it unless you are planning on a power adder.
I agree the XE grind is much better (they learned from experience). I recently switch to a custom grind tweaked from a cc306 (on my 97) and it runs much stronger than with the 306 I went 228/236 .050 with the intake on a 114 LC and I bumped the lift up to 560 (using with some worked AFRs) The exhaust is running a 110 LC with the same lift. I ran the lobe sep at 113, it idles very smooth at 800 rpm (slight lump) but really screams as the RPMs increase. If I had it over I would move the LC to 110/maybe 108 respectively. I havent been piddling with my own cams for long but it is fun (learn from mistakes).
The 306 on a 114 is junk for N/A. Now if you had nitrous it would work ok but still not optimal for a real street car. I am having a custom grind done for my new setup and won't be close to a 306. It should run 11's N/A.

You'd still raise up the powerband. The 306 doesn't make any power below 1800 rpm. I have to get away from stoplights at at least 2500 rpm to keep up with slow going traffic, more like 3000 if I want to get anywhere. Although its a little different for you manual guys.
IMO, for the power gain that you'd get, I wouldn't do it. I'd just save it and get your heads worked over for more power.
Also, when I go to my 355 nitrous motor, I'm going to go with like a 224/230 cam (maybe a hair smaller), and spin the engine to only 6200-6400 rpm. I could spin the 306 around 7000 rpm if I wanted to, but I don't think the stock bottom end would like it.

my 306 is on a 114 LSA upon recommedation from combomotorsports (where i got the cam). The reason is for the juice. It works real well with the spray. Yes, it doesnt start pulling N/A untill bout 35-4k or so, but it pulls all the way too 7k without missing a beat. I can really tell the dif. when I spray with the cam. Havent had it to the track to get some no.'s yet, but i'll let ya know.
