CC305 questions

I'm thinking about going with the CC305, and was wondering how you know what springs to go with? Could I use the stock 1.5rr's, or do I need the 1.6 rr's, and what size is best for those?

If you use a stock dia spring and keep the open pressure below 350#s they will work.

If youre not wanting to spend a butt load you can buy the Comp Cams Pro magnum Roller tipped rockers, they are very durable and about 150 $ to 180 most places. The Crane Gold rollers are nice and the Steel comp cams are nice as well.

combination motorsports can hook u up with everything you need.

I went with 987-16 springs on my old CC305.
Go with 1.6 rockers... I cant see any sense with going 1.5.
And get a tune on Tunercat or lt1 edit after the roller rocker install..
My car was pulling 15 degrees of timing for 2 years cuz of noisy rockers... just found out a few months ago.. talk about butt loads of lost horsepower.

CC305 I'm using COMP pro Magnum 1.6's on mine.

I had a set of COMP 986 springs to use with it, but They wouldn't work with the COMP LT1 spring seats, so my machinist supplied a set of Crane springs. I wish I had the part # for you. I know they're rated for up to .600" lift. The CC305 is only .544" with 1.6 rockers.

I believe the guides had to be cut to accept the COMP spring seats. LT1's center the spring on the INSIDE. Typical SBC's center the spring on the OUTSIDE.

I do know someone makes a set of springs that work with the CC305/1.6 rocker combination without any machine work. Hepefully someone else will chime in with that info, because I'm not sure who it is.

I've been using a set of Isky springs I got from Thunder Racing. Good to 550 and the CC305 only goes to 544 with the 1.6 rockers. I'm also using Comp pro-mag nsa 1,6 rockers. Those isky springs use factory GM seats and retainers so no machine work required. I'm actually going to be swapping to something a little stronger since I'm putting heads on the car. That way in the future if I decide on a bigger cam all the hard work will be done already. Anyhow, I'll probably try and sell the Isky springs I currently have so if your interested let me know.

Here ya go,

you can use the CM 612 spring, retainer and lock kit from Combination Motorsport (702-798-8504) for $80. Uses stock spring shims and requires NO machining. Works with up to .580 lift cams and works great.

I'm happy with my 1.6 COMP Pro Magnums. Just remember...If you go Non self-aligning, you'll need guide plates, and the ONLY source for LT1 bolt-on guide plates is GMPerformance Parts. LT1's have .050" wider valve spacing than typical SBC's, so any other SBC plate will throw your rocker tips off the center of your valve tips.
Isky makes a set of "adjustable plates", but they need to be welded once they're adjusted. The GMPP plates are alot easier to work with, and they're only about $20 a set.
