CC 306, stock heads, hooker lts

well the car is officially parked for the winter, about 7 months. So im going to have some time and money to get some things done.

I was thinking about a cc306, with stock heads for now, and most likely some combination motorsports stage 1's in the spring/summer. along with the cam i am plannin on installing a set of hooker lts.

how well does this work with stock heads, and what kind of power can i expect to be putting down with my mods, thank in advance

Oh yeah, 1.6 RRs too

I am no expert by all means, But what I have read and talked to people about. Stock heads are alittle restrictive for the cc306. I mean it will work, and make decent power. But agian from what i hear it wont be utlized fully. I was speeking to a bunch of people and they all said to go with the 230/236 112lsa cam (obviously smaller then cc306) they said its great on stock heads and awsome on aftermarket or ported heads. Combonation Motorsports also said this. But if your planing on going larger, save for some heads Did I put it right everyone?

Yeah.. don't make the mistake of going with a smaller cam just so it works a little better with your stock heads... eventualy you'll get better heads and you'll regrete just not waiting to do your cam and heads at the same time.

Exactly. While you may not see max capability from the 306 with stock heads, it is still a damn nice cam regardless.

Well put, its all about prefrence I guess. Question, how much more aggresive and how big of diffrence in the power band is the cc306 over the 230/236 112 lsa cam?

Not all that different, the 306 is going to do a better job of getting the EGT out of there, due to more duration and lift. They are both going to turn above 6K, the 306 will go slightly higher. And I haven't noticed any major low end issues, even with the stock TC for the time it ws on there. I wouldn't go any smaller. Also, it is very streetable, with tuning.

You're not going to realize the full potential of ANY aftermarket can, with the stock heads. CC306 makes excellent power on stock heads. People generally roll 345-355 rwhp with a cc306 on stock heads.

I would defiantly save up for heads while you're at it. No sense in tearing in it 2 times when you only have to do it once.

It's like buying toothpaste and not buying the toothbrush!

I'd wait for some heads because the stock heads will choke the hell outta the 306.

I got some times in with my slipping tranny before it died. It is a beast from 40 mph, right in my powerband. My best MPH with it was a 107.2 and it could have hit 109 I'm sure of it. Some gears and TC and Im figuring around 112 traps.

It isn't bad at all on the street either even though many people say it is.

I have to agree. If you get a small cam now, you will probably regret it. I did. I had the hot cam kit. A good starter, but not if you have plans! The CC306 needs to breath for max hp. But it will work w/ stock heads. You will need tuning. I also had to have a convertor.

The CC306 rules, and the haters out there know it

I love my CC306, and I don't have any plans or reasons to replace
it w/ something else.

Good luck!

The 306 makes good HP #'s and runs decent MPH but there are alot better cams for a stock headed car out there. Who runs from a 40mph roll? Nascar thats about it. If you want to fast don't buy a 306. If you want to put some decnent dyno#'s and run froma roll it maybe for you but I like torque and that is what gets a car going quick. Most Hotcammed cars will stomp those 306's at the drag strip in streetcars b/c they have more torque. If you want to put a 4500 conv and 4.11 or 5000rpm clutch dumps then a 306 will work but the rest of your drivetrain will need help. Cams are all about the same price so just get a custom ground cam for right around the same price for your application. My cam is alot smaller than the 306 and my heads are near stock. JMO Later
