cc 305 ?

I am thinking of buying a used 305 cam. He said that it has 10,000 miles on it and he wants next to nothing for it. If i decide to get this should i worry about spinning a bearing at 71,000 miles? So far my car has mac headers slp loud mouth, intake and 3.73's. My question is can someone tell me what to use and how much EVERYTHING will cost to do a cam swap.(harden push rods, timing chain, gaskets, springs, retainers, guides, and rr) What site should i look at? I just wanna get a idea how much everything will cost minus the cam and instal. Also would that hurt if i drove it on a stock stall and stock tune for a few months?? THANKS!!!!

Re: cc 305 ?

Well Nick, I just installed the Hotcam kit with p&p heads, etc and i am currently running on a stock tune (b/c i fried an OBD1 computer that i was tuning....long story) anyways the 305 is almost identicle and right now it is running fine on the stock tune. I know it will gain power once i get an OBD1 that i can tune but i am still getting good gas mileage and since mine is a 6 speed it already idled high enough to drive on. Now if it is an auto you might shut off at some lights b/c of the lower idle. You will spend at least a grand in my opinion buying everything you need in the end. I like my cam a lot and if it is like the hotcam then it should be fine. With those gears it should roll. I am going to invest in some 4.11s. Hope i helped ya a little.

Re: cc 305 ?

heres what i did
used cc305 $130
used SA crane gold 1.6rr $140
hardened pushrods used $10
retainers, EX612, locks kit $110 got this from comp cams
and all gaskets

i did all the work with another mechanic at the shop i work at. came out pretty good because i got high end parts used pretty decent price.
right now im running this on a stock tune but on a M6. tune to come shortly. runs fine on the stock tune i dont mind the little surge and its a pretty mild idle. im sure ill gain some decent hp though with the tune. o yeah i did this with almost 100k miles on my car and i replaced the front cam bearing it was pretty worn. i guess its common on these LT1s. something to look for.

Re: cc 305 ?

o yeah put a timming chain set in there while your at it. i just replaced the chain but im sure everyone would probably recommend the whole set since the chain usually wears with the gears. i think theres a double roller out there for an LT1 but its a pretty penny so i just stayed stock.

Re: cc 305 ?

I ran that cam on a stock stahl for a month or two. It will work ok, but it is a tad doggy off the line until you reach around 2500. I got a good deal on a slightly used L/U 2500 stahl so I stuck that in when I built the tranny a month or 2 back and its a lot better. It wont hurt anything though. But you should change that out next to see some real performance gains. If you daily drive it, I would get a 2500. If you plan on hitting the track a lot, go for 3000-3500 area depending on if you plan to keep modding away. I would say with all the mods I have, I need a bit more stahl, but my suspension isnt setup yet and you have to keep that in mind as well. If you cant hook up, theres no point in going crazy on stahl because you'll just burn tires all day like I do when trying to launch off a light on street tires. If its anything other than a completely dry day with low humidity, I will burn tires to 2nd gear trying to launch and i only got 3.42's with 2500 stahl.

I wouldn't call 2 more degrees of duration a lot. hotcam is 218/228 .525/.525. 305 is 220/230 .544/.544

Re: cc 305 ?

Will the 305 idle ok in my 96 z auto with no tuning or stall all the time.I guess will eventually get it programmed but not until have to.I already have 2800 vig.Is there any other way to get idle a bit higher on the lt1 on the ls1 you can drill out the tb plate and reverse the idle screw to get it a bit higher.

i apologize. i was thinking of the duration of the cc503, which 224/230 but has a litlle less lift on the intake side.

Re: cc 305 ?

I ran the CC305 for years in my old 93 . With home ported heads a 3000 stall full exhaust and 3.73 rear gears I hit 12.2s at 111 to 113 mph regularly.
