K&N Stage 2 CAI Kit
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...7958890644&rd=1
Well, I bought it with the understanding that this was an authentic K&N CAI. It isn't...only the FILTER is K&N. If you read the iten dscription more carefully, then you will see that they do (vaguely) state this.
Here's what I have found out about this kit when I attempted to install it on my '97 Z28.
-- tubing is a cheap aluminum that scratches really easily. The other brand name (much more expensive kits use stainless steel that's MUCH more polished. If you don't mind the dull finish, this one will do.
-- the tubing was cut VERY unprofessionally...almost seemed like a band saw since all the cut ends of the pipes had a LOT of burrs on them. I had to file every single one down so there wouldn't be ANY chance of metal flakes being sucked into the engine!
-- The lower stage tube had 2 air ports welded onto it for some other vacuum or air lines with blue rubber "boots" that easily fell off. My Z didn't need them.
-- The larger hose that went to the air pump (I think?) had a hole cut and the little nozzle/nipple that the hose clamps onto was actually a 1/2" EMT CONDUIT BOX CONNECTOR! It wasn't even a airtight fit! How cheap can you get!
-- the instructions had no illustrations and was written in broken English.
-- Though the 2 stages DID extend down (way down) to the bottom of the "air chamber" it was misaligned causing the filter to be jammed against the wall facing the radiator. I ended up using the stock air plenum (that connects to the MAS) and connected the lower stage to that which caused a near perfect fit. It didn't go as deep/low, but where it sat looks ideal to minimize the possibility of water being splashed onto the filter.
-- It was an authentic K&N filter. They even included the filter box stuffed into the box they sent.
-- One end of a pipe was flattened but I easily made it round again with a pair of Chanel Locks.
-- I was charged an extra $4 to get it shipped to Hawaii, saying the S&H was $24. On the box, the postal sticker said $12.76 so the "Handling" charge doubled the actual shipping fee.
-- Unlike other brand name CAI's there were no support brackets making the entire system hang free, which I believe increases the chances something may slip free.
My opinion is that this is a cheap attempt at a CAI. I'd say that I could just as easily buy my own K&N filter and make a CAI out of PVC pipe and save a lot of money.

Looks to me that they stated pretty clearly that is was a "Chrome Cold Air Induction" - ChomeIntakes being the company name. They also mentioned pretty clearly in the material list - "3 " diameter T-306 Light weight Aluminum"
It's pretty common for companys (especially E-bay companies) to add heavy shipping and handling charges to make the sales price look better. Best to check rates with UPS before bidding.
Sorry to hear about the fittment issues. But, in my experience, rarely do aftermarket pieces fit perfectly, and the less you pay, the more you've got to jack with them...

Re: Caution On this Ebay CAI
Wasn't the semi literate ad copy a tipoff that this guy was an idiot and most likely his product would reflect that?
Quote from ebay ad:
"This intake have 2 pieces of intake tubes*will connect the air filter all the way to the bottom of the car and will draw more cold air from the bottom
K&N filter is a world wide well known brand filter. It is uniquely design with many layers of oiled cotton fabric for the purpose to captures more dirt. K&N filter is reusable and rewasherable."
The rest of the ad reads pretty much the same.
Sorry you had to learn this lesson the hard way. Let the buyer beware.
