Question Catylitic Converters

I have a 1997 z28. My Cat just blew out and I need to replace it. It is the one that sits just about at the middle of the car. Not the two right past the manifolds. Anyways, I have done some research and found that because of the ODB-II, I have to put a certain kind of Cat on there.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of cat I get and wheather or not it will affect my emisson readings? I would like to go with a high flow cat but I am hearing that it will not pass smog. Remember I live in the foreign state of California.

Thanks guys,

RED Z

I think if you go back and look, you will realize that your car only has two cats... the one in the drivers side of the Y-pipe is right up against the exhaust manifold, the one on the passenger side of the Y-pipe is down lower, under the hump in the passenger side floor. You could replace it with a stock unit, or get a high flow unit that is certified by the manufacturer as correct for your car/model - should satisfy CARB. If it were me, I'd replace both cats, to keep both sides of the engine in balance.

You can use them as long as the manufacturer tells you its the right cat for your car.

make sure it has an EOD exemption number. You can then look it up on the C.A.R.B. website (www.ca.arb.gov I believe). If it does not have a CARB EOD exemtion number you will not pass the visual for smog.

On Board Diagnostic! I just looked at the EO approved OBD_II Coverters and noe of them can be used on the Camaro. They are all for trucks. So does this mean I have to go to the dealer????

so I assume ODB I is 93-94, and ODB II is 95-97?
